A few years ago we went to the Hay Literary Festival in May to hear a number of speakers including childrens' authors and and Monty Don. The biggest arena at the Festival was packed to the gunnels to hear him. With a mainly female audience hanging on to his every breath did he talk about gardening? No, but he did give a very sincere tallk about his fight over the years with depression which was very revealing. I didn't mind what he talked about - it was just lovely to hear his gravelly voice. Swoon.
Talking of handsome gardeners a few years ago I bumped into Chris Beardshaw at the Malvern Spring Gardening Show. I had to go out of my way a little to pull this off but just about managed it. Nonchalant, moi? In Chris' case I was surprised in real life how small he was but being small myself I wasn't complaining: like a minature daffodil he was small but perfectly formed.
